Next up on the workbench. I’ve got the ICM T34 85 Model Tank the Russian tank from the second world war. Now, this is a kit from ICM it’s the first time I have got to build one of their kits. Also, this will be the first piece of Russian Amour I am going to build.
This tank model was part of the Battle of Berlin Berlin box set which contained both this t-34 and a King Tiger. You can check out my review HERE.
I’ve never built any Russian Army before so I thought starting with the T34 it being one of the more iconic tanks of the second world war.
Building The ICM T34 85 Model Tank
So far, it has been a really nice smooth build very clean fitting. There’s extra parts. I’m thinking that some of these sprues can be used to make a different version of the tank. So I did make a little mistake with one of the back plates of armour, but I’ve managed to lift that off just using a bit of the extra thin glue to loosen it off and refit the correct part.
A little bit of filling here and there but the build is going very well. There’s a few things I would have probably done differently if I was if I was producing it, but overall it’s really nice. I suppose you just get used to building Tamiya kits which are so intuitive and so well designed.
The build is pretty much complete. There have been no real issues on this model tank build. There really has been the minimal amount of cleaning and filling on this kit. Even though it is quite a basic, budget kit it produces a fantastic replica of the famous Russian tank.
Painting And Weathering The ICM T34 85 Model Tank
I have given it a coat of green, but I want to have a little play around with some tonal effects on this model, so I have added some more white to my green and resprayed parts of the tank to highlight them.
I have painted up the wheels and the tracks. The tracks have then had a coat of rust wash. I’m trying to keep the paint job really simple on this one. I have decided just to go with a dark pin wash. You can see in the photo below how using a darker and lighter shade of the green paint, along with the wash has really given the model tank some dimension.
After the decals have been fitted and another clear coat, I have gone for another dark brown wash. This second wash has given me a really nice effect. To be honest I don’t want to do too much more. So I’m just going to lightly add some pigments to the model.
That’s the pigments down. All I need to do is fit an aerial and I’m calling this scale model tank done!
